Back to Health Benefits of Honey...

Honey is not for Babies or Children

Please be careful:

It is advised not to give honey to infants under one year of age.

Infant botulism is a rare but serious paralytic disease caused by a micro-organism.

Spores can germinate, grow and produce toxins in the lower bowel of some infants and honey is a potential source of these spores.

Infants are susceptible until their intestinal bacteria develop. Adults and older children are able to ingest the spores without harm.

This information is an edited extract from the book 'Honey and its many health benefits' by Margaret Briggs. And is available for purchase from Bookmart Ltd, Blaby Road, Wigston, Leicester, LE18 1SE.
